Day 3: Stay Committed to Your Divine Assignment
Scripture:
“And the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time….” Jonah 3:1 (KJV)
Devotion:
Jonah’s story is a powerful reminder that no matter how far we run, God’s assignment for our lives still stands. Jonah tried to flee from God’s call, but even in the belly of the fish, God’s mercy reached him and redirected him back to his purpose. Like Jonah, we may feel burdened, fearful, or even rebellious when faced with our divine responsibilities – but God never gives up on us.
As wives, our assignments may include supporting our husbands, nurturing our children, raising Godly children, and being an example of Christ’s love in our communities. These tasks are sacred, yet there are days when they may feel overwhelming. I remember a season when I seriously felt like pulling a Jonah – running away from the weight of my marriage and responsibilities. But deep down, I knew that disobedience carries consequences, and that the very thing I was trying to escape was the path God had chosen to refine and grow me. Staying hasn’t always been easy – but by God’s grace, I’m still here, pressing through the process.
God doesn’t expect perfection, but He does expect our obedience. If you’ve been tempted to walk away from your role – whether in your marriage, ministry, or any part of your calling – know that God is not finished with you. Just like Jonah, He may be calling you a second time. Will you answer?
Actions Steps:
- Identify your Assignment: Take some time to prayerfully consider what specific roles and responsibilities God has entrusted to you within your marriage, your home and your community. Write them down. As you pray ask God to renew your strength and commitment.
- Take One Step at a Time: When the assignment feels too big, break it down into smaller, manageable steps. Write down one area where you’ve felt like giving up and surrender to God.
- Seek Support: Don’t try to go it alone. Reach out to a trusted friend or mentor who can pray with you and hold you accountable.
Reflection:
Are you tempted to give up on something God has asked you to do? What is one step you can take today to stay faithful to your assignment?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to stay committed to the calling You have placed on my life – especially in my marriage, ministry and home. Give me the grace to remain faithful even when it’s hard. Thank you for second chances. In Jesus’ name, amen.
